How Much Do You Know about Maize Flour Mill Process?

Since maize flour is considered as ingredient of many diet staples, maize flour milling industry remains profitable in the long terms. Despite volatility, maize price and production remains stable in the whole, which makes a peaceful environment for maize processing industry. Since its high profits and risk-free, maize processing industry has been an attractive investment. Well, how much you know about maize flour milling process? The details will be illustrated by the following article.

First: let’s share the information of maize instructions. Maize consists of 82% endosperm, 12% embryo and the left part is peel. Endosperm is the important raw material of starch, and maize oil is made of embryo. Peel is mainly used as animal feed. Maize processing methods can be divided into maize flour dry milling and wet milling. The former one is oriented to process starch, maize syrup, HFCS (high fructose corn syrup), industrial ethanol making, and etc. dry milling method is mainly used to process beer residue, maize meal and so on. We will give a rough introduction of maize dry milling method.

First step of maize wet milling process is cleaning. Remove all the impurities out of maize such as foreign seeds, wheat, rice, dust, peel and etc. Then, get maize kernels steeped in sulphurous acid with a density of 0.2%-0.3% under 48 degrees to 55 degrees. Sulphurous acid will restrain the growth of spoilage microorganisms and reduce contain of protein and accelerate the starch contents. After 60-72 hours, we will enter the next stage-degermination. Then, after the final course maize flour milling, we will get maize flour, meal, starch and other processed products.
